M.A.C. – June/July Roundup 2023

Middlesbrough Angling Club – June Roundup. Club news, points of interest & information for members discussed at our June meeting (held Mon 26th June 2023):

  • The major work at Hutton Rudby Ponds has now been completed and the ponds reopened to members on Saturday 1st July. Many of the pegs are still bedding in and due to the approach taken in the construction – to provide a natural, solid, safe and level base that is comfortable for different styles of angling – it will take some time for them to settle and grass over – With this in mind members are asked not to push bank sticks into the new pegs / not to interfere with any bank side vegetation / stay clear of materials in the vicinity of the cabin.
  • A big thanks go to Andrew Ellis and his team from AE fisheries for their hard work and dedication to getting the job done in often sweltering conditions – The lads worked several long days barely stopping for a break and we are grateful to Andrew for talking members through the work and answering questions at our social meet.
  • There are still a number of smaller jobs scheduled at Hutton for ongoing work parties – times and dates will be communicated via the club website and Facebook group if areas of the ponds need to be closed for work to be completed – Full credit to the lads in the Hutton Rudby work group who have given up their time to support the club – and last but not least thanks to our members for their patience and continued support for the clubs efforts to make Hutton Rudby Ponds the best possible fishery we can achieve, not just for now but for future generations of anglers.
  • As mentioned in previous posts please be considerate to residents when parking on Campion Lane – No Parking in front of the direct access gate – this includes unloading tackle.
  • As work is wrapped up at Hutton Rudby the committee will focus on the organising of junior coaching days in partnership with the Angling Trust’s ‘Get Fishing’ campaign over the holidays – dates TBC and also move forward in the longer term with planning for improvements at Marske Reservoir.
  • Members wishing to compete in the Marske Reservoir Summer Champs (Sunday 23rd July) can book on with Dale at Anglers Choice now (01642) 899288 – Places are limited.
  • Following reports that one of the pegs was used as a toilet at Marske Reservoir members are reminded that when ‘answering the call of nature’ they do so with respect for their surroundings and fellow members – Any individual found to be ‘conducting themselves inappropriately’ will face expulsion from the club – on the subject of toilet facilities the club is looking at a range of potential solutions.
  • With the River fishing season now in full swing members interested in taking part in M.A.C. river competitions can find dates here – https://bit.ly/3ElrOZz
  • Invasive species: Pink Salmon – The Environment Agency Fisheries Technical officer for the Tees area has asked for any reports of Pink salmon seen or caught to be reported to the EA hotline – 0800 80 70 60 more info here – https://bit.ly/3rczYjs
  • As mentioned in the last roundup the open committee meeting scheduled for June was moved back to 7PM, July 24th at St. Francis Parish Hall & Social Club, 200 Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, TS3 4PS. All club members are welcome to attend – we hope to see you there.
  • Keep the catch reports and catch pictures coming on the M.A.C. Private members Facebook group – Please use an unhooking mat and suitable sling / landing net.
