IMPORTANT UPDATE TO MAC MEMBERS – MARSKE RESERVOIR – BLUE-GREEN ALGAE BLOOM
As outlined in the clubs notice to members last week and Following a sample of water being tested by the Environment Agency lab the club can confirm that Marske Reservoir is suffering from a bloom of blue-green algae.
Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can produce toxins that are potentially harmful to humans, animals and wildlife.
PRECAUTIONS FOR ANGLERS
Advisory signage will be placed at the reservoir to make members aware of the situation – we ask all members to take the following precautions in the interest of health and safety:
- Avoid direct contact with the water wherever possible.
- Do not touch or disturb any visible algae, surface scum or discoloured water.
- Blue green algae can be harmful to small mammals, dogs etc – No dogs on the res so this shouldn’t be a problem.
- Wash hands thoroughly after handling fish, nets or other wet equipment, particularly before eating or drinking.
- Keep cuts and open wounds covered with waterproof dressings.
- Avoid splashing water onto your face or into your mouth.
- Clean fishing equipment and footwear after use, taking care not to transfer potentially contaminated water to other fisheries. Follow the CHECK CLEAN DRY guidance.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
