M.A.C. – July/August Roundup 2023

Middlesbrough Angling Club – July Roundup. Club news, points of interest & information for members discussed at our July meeting (held Mon 31st July 2023).
  • M.A.C. JUNIOR COACHING SESSIONS – August is National Fishing Month and Middlesbrough Angling Club is pleased to announce that two free to attend junior open coaching events will take place at Hutton Rudby Ponds (Pond 2) this month in support of this initiative – in partnership and with funding from the Angling Trust’s ‘Get Fishing’ campaign.
  • These short taster sessions – open to all juniors and ideal for beginners – will take place on Wednesday 23rd August and Wednesday 30th August 4.30PM to 7.30PM and will be hosted by highly experienced Level 2 coach and the Angling Trust’s Club & Fishery Development Officer for the North East, Dave Munt – covering the basics and giving young newcomers to fishing the chance to experience the magic of that ‘first fish’ moment!
  • No previous experience is necessary, all bait, tackle and equipment will be provided free of charge. Toilet facilities will be available.
  • Places are limited to 10 juniors per session – For further information and to Book a place call Dale at Anglers Choice (01642) 899288 – All juniors must be accompanied by a responsible adult – parent/guardian at all times. Pond 2 will be closed to members on these dates.
  • We are grateful to Dave for providing his knowledge, experience, resources and time to support the club in our efforts to prioritise inclusive participation opportunities for youngsters and re-establish regular junior events on the clubs waters – Promoting our sport of angling and the proven benefits to both physical and mental wellbeing to engage with new generations of potential anglers and their families.
  • M.A.C. MEMBERS FISHING BUDDY SCHEME – At the request of members and to coincide with National Fishing Month and the school holidays the club is introducing a trial offer for existing full adult members to add a junior to their membership for £5 – Great for members who have youngsters they would like to introduce to fishing – under the terms of this offer the member must be responsible for the junior at all times, member and junior must fish the same peg and use a maximum of one rod each. Members can add a junior by taking their current membership card along to Anglers Choice.
  • HUTTON RUDBY – Work parties performing general maintenance and upkeep have continued – any dates when full or partial closure of ponds is necessary will be communicated via the website/facebook group.
  • SIGNAL CRAY FISH – Following reports from members about signal crayfish, an invasive species, at Hutton Rudby Ponds and what they should do if they catch one – From the Inland Waterways Association website: ‘Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended), it is an offence to release, or allow to escape, any non-native species into the wild in the UK except under licence. If you catch a signal crayfish, bring it ashore for humane destruction’. Read more here – https://waterways.org.uk/about-us/news/signal-crayfish
  • MARSKE RESERVOIR SUMMER CHAMPS – Well done to Dave Alderton who added his name to the champs trophy with a winning weight of 30lb-02oz including a personal best carp of 17lb-04oz in true British summertime conditions of non-stop torrential rain – it was a match where everyone deserved a medal! Next up in the Marske seasonal champs series is the Autumn Champs on Sunday 24th September- to book on contact Dale at Anglers Choice.
  • The club has identified a possible cost effective and efficient waterless toilet solution for both Hutton Rudby Ponds and Marske Reservoir and we are exploring the funding available towards this and the logistics involved.
  • The Committee is aware the club website has been offline for several days – this is due to admin moving the site to a new server for improved performance.
  • Following a number of occasions when gates have been left unlocked and in some cases left open, members are reminded that all gates should be kept closed and locked – including the access gate at Marske Reservoir.
  • Keep the catch reports and catch pictures coming on the M.A.C. Private members Facebook group – Please use an unhooking mat and suitable sling / landing net.
Tight Lines! M.A.C. Committee.
