Update to Members – Hutton Rudby Ponds Remedial Work 10/08/22

M.A.C. Fisheries Officers & Officials are using the window of opportunity while water levels at the ponds are low to utilise a mini digger and other heavy machinery on pond 1 to remove stumps and debris, improve pegs and grade undercut banks which have been planted with upwards of 1000 iris and glyceria – which when established will strengthen the banks and provide a valuable protective habitat for the recruitment of the next generation of the ponds fish stocks and resident wildlife.

This work is being done in-line with the netting, survey and report by AE Fisheries and is part of ongoing improvements and remedial work at the ponds.

The work on pond 1 will continue tomorrow (Thursday 11th August) and as a result of this work Monday’s match has been switched to pond 2 to allow for cleaning up of debris from the bank. Members will be able to pleasure fish pond 1 on Monday but are advised to avoid pegs where there are stumps and roots that need to be removed.

Fantastic effort by the lads, from harvesting the plants (at no cost to the club) to working in challenging temperatures in chest waders! – Rome wasn’t built in a day – it will take a while for the greenery to establish – Please be careful where stumps and debris are waiting to be moved.
