Middlesbrough Angling Club – March Roundup. Club news, points of interest & reminders to members discussed at our March meeting (held Mon 27th March 2023) (This months meeting was an open meeting – Thanks to the members that came along – Next open meeting is Monday June 26th):
- FINAL CALL FOR MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS – 2023 Membership subscriptions must be paid no later than March 31st at Anglers Choice, Cleveland Angling, Keith Sports or by post. After this time reapplication for membership will be necessary – The Membership Secretary has informed the Committee there is a healthy waiting list and reapplication will not guarantee membership for this year. Members are reminded they must not fish club waters until their membership has been renewed. *Note 01/03/23 – The club is not currently taking any further applications for membership due to the number on waiting list.
- A work party will be taking place at Hutton Rudby Ponds on Monday 17th April from 10AM (weather permitting)! – The ponds will remain open to members who wish to fish. Members who have an interest in taking part in club work parties are welcome to contact Dale (Fisheries Officer) @ Anglers Choice (01642) 899 288.
- Work to improve pegs at Marske Reservoir is planned to begin late spring / early summer. This work will be done on a peg by peg basis and as such the reservoir will remain open to anglers. If extra pairs of hands are needed & Dates/times of this work will be posted on the club website/Facebook closer the time.
- Members wishing to compete in the Marske Reservoir Spring Champs (Sunday 23rd April) & the Ron Thompson Memorial 2 day event (Sat 13th & Sun 14th May) can book on with Dale at Anglers Choice from Monday 3rd April.
- The Committee has decided to trial the use of combination locks at Hutton & Marske in the near future – If we have an experienced welder in our ranks please give us a shout – We have a job for you!
- The club is holding an informal members consultation on the private Facebook group regarding our stretch of the river Leven at the foot of Leven Bank – https://bit.ly/3KewUKF
- Members of the Committee attended the Angling Trust North East Fisheries Forum on 22nd March – This provided an excellent opportunity to make further contacts within the AT and other stakeholders in the area. As a direct result the club will be working with the EA on a scale sampling project.
- The level has been lowered at Scaling Dam Reservoir allowing work to be done on the dam wall – The venue remains open for fishing but members are advised to avoid areas of the dam wall where work is ongoing.
- Multilingual closed season signage provided by the Angling Trust & Environment Agency passed on to Jeff (Chairman) for consideration at the Lower Tees Angling Association AGM.
- The close season for coarse fish is underway and runs from 15th March to 15th June inclusive – While our stillwater venues remain open throughout the year, the clubs stretches of river are closed for coarse fishing during this time. Suspected unlicensed and illegal fishing can be reported by calling the Environment Agency Incident Hotline on 0800 80 70 60
