Middlesbrough Angling Club – April Roundup. Club news, points of interest & reminders to members discussed at our April meeting (held Mon 24th April 2023):
- Hutton Rudby Ponds – A Work party took place on 17th April attended by fisheries officer, club officials and several club members (big thank you to them – many hands make light work)! General maintenance and upkeep jobs were completed in preparation for major works to be undertaken by AE Fisheries commencing Monday 22nd May 2023 – during this time the ponds and grounds will be closed to members – The ponds will reopen on Monday 29th May.
- To coincide with the work being done at Hutton Rudby the club is hosting a social evening to be held on Tuesday 23rd May with guest speaker Andrew Ellis, of AE Fisheries & an experienced carp angler – giving members a chance to learn more about the work – past and present – AE have done at the ponds, ask Andrew any questions relating to his work and talk fishing over a decent pint! – from 7PM @ St Francis Social Club, 200 Acklam Road, Middlesbrough TS5 4PS… Full details will follow on the club website and facebook group.
- Marske Reservoir – Col Dickenson was the winner of the Spring Champs competition held on Sunday 23rd April with 22lb 05oz – Well done Col! full write up in the club website news section and Facebook Group. Unfortunately A lot of litter was collected by the lads on the day and continues to be a persistent problem – the message is clear to the minority: LEAVE LITTER – LEAVE THE CLUB.
- Scaling Dam / Lockwood Beck Reservoirs – We have been asked by Northumbrian Water to remind members who take advantage of fishing these venues on the MAC book that use of boats, kayaks, belly boats?! – basically water craft of any kind – for fishing are not allowed for health and safety reasons. It was also noted that Lockwood is producing quality perch for lure anglers.
- Rivers – Jeff has continued with his fine work on the rivers during the close season cutting out pegs and cutting back obstructions and also liasing with landowners to improve access to club stretches. Future work on the rivers may require some extra pairs of hands – Members who have an interest in taking part in club work parties are welcome to contact Dale @ Anglers Choice (01642) 899 288.
- Membership – The date for renewals has now passed and the membership secretary has informed the committee that all available membership places have been filled from the waiting list. The club is not currently taking any further applications for membership due to the the number of people we have on the waiting list – If this changes during the current year it will be communicated via the club website & Facebook group. All credit to Eddie for his hard work as MS.
- As voted for by members at the last club AGM the club Treasurer is working with accountants to put an efficient auditing system in place as a matter of best practice and transparency going forward.
- The Ron Thompson Memorial 2 day competition takes place on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th May at Hutton Rudby Ponds & Marske Reservoir – All places for the event were filled within a matter of days – Great Support in memory of a great servant of the club for what is always a great event.
- The club continues to seek funding through a number of sources to improve our waters and has received positive feedback from applications – this is not an area the club has made the most of in the past and the officers of the club acknowledge the excellent work Steve Watkins has done in this area since joining the committee.
- …And finally! …Get involved! – With the weather (hopefully)! Warming up and the fishing (hopefully)! Improving, we encourage catch reports and catch pictures on the clubs private members Facebook group. Monday Matches at Hutton Rudby start soon – New faces are welcome – Dale @ Anglers Choice is happy to advise newcomers and Junior Coaching days in partnership with the Angling Trust will go ahead once the Hutton Rudby work is completed – Plenty for members to keep an eye out for and plenty of participation opportunities for those who wish to get involved moving forward.
Tight Lines! M.A.C. Committee.
